The buyer moves before the search does
Most people think B2B demand starts when a company goes looking. It doesn’t. It starts earlier, in public, in places most sellers never check: a warning letter, a layoff notice, a backlog that keeps stretching, a budget forecast that moves. The company hasn’t written a brief yet. It already has the problem.
That gap between the signal and the search is where the good work gets decided. Once a company starts searching, it gets the loudest answers, not the best ones. The operators who are actually good at fixing that exact problem are usually booked, and rarely the ones bidding hardest.
By the time a company posts the job, the best operator for it is already working for someone else.
So the leverage isn’t in finding more buyers. It’s in reading the signal early and putting the right operator in the room before the search begins, while the conversation is still about the problem and not about price.
That’s the whole job. Watch what the public record says is breaking, know who fixes it, and make the introduction while it still counts.
